Just read the FP post about Jackie Stewart calling Hamilton a ballerina and it made me remember something my grandmother once said. little background here my grandmother was a scottish immigrant and Ihad only ever heard her curse once and it was because of Jackie Stewart. he was interviewed on tv and she flipped shit sating something like “get that fucking asshole off the tv” to this day even my parents have no idea why. Anyone have an idea why a 70 yr old scottish woman would hate the guy besides the fact that he was british?

my bad missed that detail. but really until that outburst i had never heard her curse and unfortunately her and my grandpa have both passed so nobody in my family knows what it was all about.

When did that outburst happen? in the 80s? the 90s? the 00s, when he got knighted? Right before the Scottish independence referendum in 2014?
Sounds a bit surprising because Stewart has always had a sterling reputation.
I’d say it may have had to do with politics. Cannot imagine your gran getting upset about (Stewart +) religion or (Stewart +) sex, the other two big topics than can make people go ballistic. Also I don’t think I’ve ever heard of any faux pas by JS in that regard.

Well, for some reason maybe she hated the fact that he had been knighted. Maybe she was a Scottish nationalist and held republican ideas.

that may be it then. i know she was completely for all previous attempts for scottish independence, had dual citizenship until the day she died, and flew the lion rampant below the american flag outside her house.
